Garrett Mock returned to the rotation in Syracuse and tonight pitched a three-hit shutout in the Chiefs' 3-0 victory over the Columbus Clippers at Huntington Park.

"I'll be a starter, a reliever or a pine-tar boy," the 26-year-old right-hander said Monday, moments after throwing his first complete game.

Congratulations to Garrett Mock. Great guy. Like him as a person but just hasn't been consistent at the MLB level.

In 2009, the competition for starters is thick already:

    1. Lannan
    2. J. Zimmermann
    3. Martis
    4. Olsen (arbitration eligble)
    5. Detwiler
    6. Stammen
    7. Strasburg (must be signed)
    8. Chico
    9. Mock

2008 to me is a tryout for 2009 with the exception of Strasburg who isn't here yet.

And don't forget Balestar. It is nice to have young arms in the wings....
